Gazprom extends gas supply agreement to Serbia for the third time this year

Private draft

Gazprom has extended the agreement on supplying Russian gas to Serbia for another three months — until the end of 2026. This was reported by the director of the state company Srbijagas, Dušan Bajatović; the terms remain unchanged, and this is already the third three-month extension since the beginning of the year.

The extension was reported by The Insider citing the director of the state company Srbijagas, Dušan Bajatović. According to him, the terms remain unchanged, and the agreement has been extended for another three months — until the end of 2026.

This is already the third three-month extension since the beginning of the year: the previous ones were agreed in March and June. After a conversation with Vladimir Putin on September 26, Aleksandar Vučić said that Serbia receives gas at about €318 per thousand cubic meters, while the market price in Europe at the time was about €868.

Thus, the contract price cited by Vučić was more than twice as low as the market price. Moscow and Belgrade have not yet concluded a long-term agreement, although in the summer of 2025 Bajatović spoke about negotiations on a contract for three or ten years.

Russian gas covers up to 90% of Serbia's needs. Belgrade is trying to obtain the remaining volumes, including from Azerbaijan and through LNG terminals in Greece; supplies come via the continuation of TurkStream through Bulgaria.

The European Commission reports that the share of Russian gas in EU imports fell from 45% in 2021 to 12% in 2025. In February 2026, the European Union adopted a regulation providing for a complete phaseout of Russian LNG by the end of 2026, and of pipeline gas no later than November 30, 2027.
