Drones attacked the largest oil depot in the Moscow region and Transneft’s oil hub in the Samara region

Private draft

On the night of October 6, the Moscow region came under a massive attack by Ukrainian drones: according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 650 drones were launched toward the capital, and Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported the interception of 185 drones, damage to homes, and the death of one person. According to the Telegram channel Astra, one of the targets was the Volodarskaya linear production and dispatch station (LPDS) — the largest oil depot in the Moscow region.

According to Sobyanin, from the evening of October 5 to the morning of October 6, most of the drones were destroyed at long range, and 105 drones were shot down as they approached Moscow. He published these data in a Telegram channel.

Vorobyov reported the interception of 185 drones overnight. According to him, more than ten private homes were damaged in Istra, the village of Lobanovo, and the settlement of Radumlya, six people were injured, and one person was killed.

The Telegram channel Astra пишет that one of the targets of the attack was the Volodarskaya linear production and dispatch station (LPDS) — the largest oil depot in the Moscow region, part of OAO AK Transnefteprodukt. Up to 3 million tons of petroleum products are transported through the depot by pipeline each year, including gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel fuel.

According to Astra, the Volodarskaya LPDS receives supplies from the Moscow and Ryazan oil refineries. The products are delivered, in particular, to the airports Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetyevo.

A few days earlier, on October 2, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked the Samara LPDS in the Samara region — Transneft’s largest oil hub in Russia. The facility, which includes 71 tanks with a total capacity of more than 1.6 million cubic meters of oil, is the junction point of four main oil pipelines: Almetyevsk — Kuybyshev, Kaltasinsky — Kuybyshev, Nizhnevartovsk — Kurgan — Kuybyshev, and Gurev — Kuybyshev.

After the attack on the Samara LPDS, a fire broke out. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak later said that on the night of October 2, the AFU attacked four Russian oil refineries, without specifying which facilities were hit. He said that the potential damage was being assessed at only one refinery, and noted that Russian authorities and oil companies had strengthened protection of refineries, thanks to which the consequences of the attacks became smaller and damaged equipment can be restored faster. Novak also stated that the authorities are working out support measures for oil refining enterprises and the possibility of postponing the deadlines for their modernization.
