Delta Aurigid meteor shower will peak on the night of October 11

Private draft

The rare Delta Aurigid meteor shower will reach its peak on the night of October 11. It will be best visible in northern latitudes, TASS was told by Evgeny Burmistrov, an expert at Perm National Research Polytechnic University.

According to the International Meteor Organization, the peak activity of the Delta Aurigids falls on October 11, and the shower’s radiant is located in the constellation Auriga. Scientists predict that the strength of the meteor shower will be 2–5 meteors per hour.

Evgeny Burmistrov, an expert in astronomy at Perm National Research Polytechnic University, told TASS that on the night of October 9, the peak activity of the Draconids had already been observed. At that time, its intensity was 15 “shooting stars” per hour.

For residents of northern latitudes, the radiant of the Delta Aurigids does not set below the horizon all night, and the Moon will not brighten the sky on the weekend. Burmistrov noted that the shower is faint, so it is better to choose a location away from city lights for observations. The meteors will be visible to the naked eye.
