The American publication Axios reported that President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have postponed their trip to Moscow; this was reported by Meduza with reference to Axios. According to the publication, the visit has been postponed at least until it becomes clear whether Ukraine and its EU allies are ready to agree to the new peace proposal, the details of which have not been disclosed.

On October 9, Axios wrote that Witkoff and Kushner are advancing “new ideas and proposals” to end Russia’s war with Ukraine. The American publication also reported then that Trump’s special envoys planned to visit Russia by the end of October and discuss these ideas with the Russian leadership, while the Russian state agency TASS wrote that same day that the visit was expected “within the next two weeks”.

Witkoff and Kushner last visited Moscow on September 5. After that, they traveled to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The American newspaper The New York Times wrote on October 10 that the United States had proposed unfreezing billions of dollars in Russian assets blocked in the West in order to persuade Russia to agree to a partial ceasefire in the war with Ukraine. The day before, the Ukrainian publication The Kyiv Independent reported that the Russian side was asking for part of the sanctions to be lifted in exchange for an energy truce or a halt to strikes in the Black Sea.

On October 11, Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire in the energy sector. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a comment to Axios that the ceasefire announced by Trump was news to him, and as of the morning of October 12, Russian authorities had not confirmed agreement to such a ceasefire.
