Axios: Trump expects Zelensky to observe the energy ceasefire and stop strikes on refineries

Private draft

Axios пишет, что Donald Trump expects Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky to observe the energy ceasefire and stop strikes on Russian oil refineries. An Axios source in the White House said that Trump is “very angry” and believes Zelensky takes U.S. aid for granted.

If strikes on refineries stop, the next step could be an agreement to halt attacks on power plants and energy grids, Meduza reports, citing Axios.

Axios notes that a mutual отказ by Russia and Ukraine from strikes on refineries would be unequal. Ukraine, according to the publication’s Ukrainian source, has only one refinery, which Russian forces have repeatedly attacked, and the facility is not operating at full capacity.

Russia has not yet officially accepted the energy ceasefire. An Axios source said that “the Russians are thinking about it” and that “soon we will know whether they are ready”.

On October 11, Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire in the energy sector. Volodymyr Zelensky said in a comment to Axios that the news was news to him. On September 14, Trump had already announced such a ceasefire, after which Russia and Ukraine continued exchanging strikes.
