All four airports in the Moscow region have restricted flights because of drones and balloons

Private draft

Rosaviatsiya introduced temporary flight restrictions at all four airports in the Moscow region — Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky — at around 15:40 Moscow time. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported the destruction of 15 drones as they approached the capital.

The Moscow Times reported that the restrictions affected all four airports in the Moscow region. According to FlightRadar24, disruptions hit Vnukovo the hardest: more than 40% of flights there are delayed, the average delay is 102 minutes, and another 10% of flights are canceled.

Sergei Sobyanin announced the destruction of 15 drones as they approached Moscow. As Astra writes, residents of the southern districts of the capital reported air defense activity and explosions.

According to Astra, such reports came from Kapotnya, Kuzminki, Lyublino, Maryino, Tsaritsyno, Chertanovo, Orekhovo-Borisovo, Tekstilshchiki, and Nagatinsky Zaton.

On the afternoon of October 9, reconnaissance small-sized balloons launched from Ukrainian territory were shot down over the Yaroslavl region, the Yaroslavl Region Ministry of Regional Security said. The agency stated that work to destroy such objects is ongoing and asked residents to remain calm, not to spread unverified information, and to rely on official sources.

The airports in the Moscow region had already faced restrictions on the night of October 9. At that time, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky were closed because of the threat of a drone attack, and the flight ban was lifted by 7:00 a.m.

After that, Zhukovsky suspended operations two more times, and more than 150 flights were delayed overnight in total.
