After Russian strikes in Kyiv, traffic on three bridges was partially restricted

Private draft

After overnight Russian strikes in Kyiv, traffic was closed on the South Bridge in both directions and on the Paton Bridge from the right bank to the left. Traffic on the Metro Bridge is also restricted, and heavy congestion has formed in the city.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that this includes the fourth attack on the South Bridge in one day.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said that in Kyiv, the “road-rail bridge across the Dnipro River, which ensures troop transfers and logistical deliveries of military cargo in the interests of the AFU groupings in Donbas” was hit.

The South Bridge is one of Kyiv’s most important bridges. It connects the right and left banks of the Dnipro, is one and a half kilometers long, and besides the roadway it also carries the Kyiv metro line.

This bridge is not a railway bridge. Kyiv does have the combined Darnytsia rail-road bridge, but no strike on it was reported.

On October 1, Russian forces attacked the South Bridge three times. On the night of October 1, two Shahed-type drones exploded near the bridge’s support structure at the moment a metro train was passing there; there were no casualties, and traffic was restored quickly.

During the day, the strike hit the roadway without critical damage, and in the evening the attack was more destructive: Klitschko reported damage to one of the supports, the barrier, the roadway, the rails, and the metro’s protective concrete barriers. At night, the fourth strike on Kyiv was carried out, and as a result of the overnight strikes, a Russian drone hit a 25-story residential building in the Darnytsia district, where one person was killed and two were injured, the city administration said.
