Private draft

Activist Varvara Kosheleva and her husband were beaten in Moscow near their own home. According to Kosheleva, the attackers identified themselves as participants in the “SMO”; after the attack, she went to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with bruises of the soft tissues of the head, swelling of the nasal tissues, and multiple bruises on her face.

The incident, according to Kosheleva, occurred around midnight when she arrived home with her husband. The men placed a can of beer on their car and began speaking rudely to the couple.

After a remark from Kosheleva and her husband, a fight broke out. The activist said that during the conflict the attackers stated: “They immediately started saying that we are traitors to the Motherland, that they are fighting for people like us, and that we are ungrateful creatures”.

After the attack, Kosheleva went to the hospital. According to the medical report, she was diagnosed with bruises of the soft tissues of the head, swelling of the nasal tissues, and multiple bruises on her face; she also complained of headache, dizziness, and nausea.

Kosheleva is an activist for the headquarters of the candidate from the Yabloko party, Anna Shatunovskaya-Burno. During the elections, she also reported being attacked at a polling station in Moscow, where she was monitoring the vote count.

Last year, Kosheleva ran for the Borovsk Municipal District Duma in Kaluga Oblast. Shortly before those elections, she was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest: the reason was a conflict with notary Olga Kapitonova, whom she approached for a power of attorney to participate in the election campaign, and the court found her guilty under the administrative article on battery.
