A serviceman of the Royal Navy of Great Britain was accused of espionage in favor of Russia
Private draft
24-year-old Royal Navy serviceman Teddy Young appeared in court on Thursday on charges of collecting secret information for transfer to Russian authorities. According to the investigation, he did this from November 2024 to May 2025; the next hearing is scheduled for October 16.
Before his arrest on Wednesday, Young served in the intelligence directorate of the UK Navy.
According to the prosecution materials, he had access to classified materials in the fields of defense and intelligence, copied, recorded, and stored them.
The charges state that he also took actions indicating preparation to transfer classified information to a foreign state.
The investigation believes that Young translated the information he obtained into Russian and was preparing to hand it over to Russia.
For this, according to the prosecution, he tried to establish contact with Russian authorities via the dark web and prepared a message to communicate with a “potential malicious actor”.
The prosecution says these actions violate the National Security Act, passed in 2023, and harm the interests of Great Britain; Thursday’s hearing was procedural, and the next hearing is scheduled for October 16.
