A major heating main accident in Arkhangelsk left 100 buildings and 8,000 people without heating or hot water

Private draft

A week after the start of the heating season in Arkhangelsk, a major accident occurred on a heating main in the area of Obvodny Kanal Avenue and Severodvinskaya Street. 100 buildings, home to 8,000 people, were left without heating or hot water.

The rupture became known at 17:15 on September 23. Emergency services and traffic police officers arrived at the scene and regulated traffic near the accident site; water overflow occurred in the area.

Deputy head of the region for urban services Nikolai Khudyakov said that by 23:00 they were supposed to cool and pump the coolant out of the thermal chamber and the heating main channel. After that, specialists planned to begin switching and energizing the section.

According to Khudyakov, heating was supposed to be restored in 61 buildings by 3 a.m. Another 39 buildings, where 3,000 people live, were temporarily supposed to remain at reduced pressure through reverse supply.

They planned to begin repairing the burst pipe on Thursday morning, and full restoration of heat supply was expected by the end of the workday on September 24. In the morning, residents complained about the lack of heat at a number of addresses; one local resident wrote: “We spent the whole summer without hot water, and read posts about TGK’s difficult work with understanding, even the mayor’s report on preparations for winter. September isn’t over yet — the second rupture. There are a lot of questions”.

On September 24, the temperature in Arkhangelsk was about +11 degrees.
