In a missile strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, 12 people were killed and another 309 were injured, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said. The Saudi military coalition blamed the attack on Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis, and Donald Trump said the US could join Saudi strikes against the group.

According to Saudi Arabia, the missile hit the terminal complex of Terminals 3 and 4 at King Khalid Airport, which serves domestic flights. Associated Press reported that some of the 309 injured were in critical condition.

Among the dead were four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshi citizens, as well as citizens of the US, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Sudan, and Palestine. Reuters, citing an eyewitness, wrote that after the strike part of the ceiling near one of the boarding gates collapsed.

The airport suspended operations, and arriving planes were diverted to other cities. According to Flightradar24, the closure was extended until the evening of October 11, and after the previous attacks Lufthansa, Air India, Etihad Airways, and other carriers began canceling flights to Riyadh; Lufthansa suspended flights until October 16.

This was the third attack on the airport in a week. After the two previous attacks, four more people were killed, bringing the total death toll to at least 16.

The Saudi military coalition called the attack a war crime and vowed to respond. The Houthis have not yet confirmed involvement in the October 10 strike.

Donald Trump told reporters that Washington is considering joining Saudi strikes against the Houthis and called what happened unacceptable. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the attack and confirmed the death of an American citizen, while UN Secretary-General António Guterres also condemned the strike on a civilian facility.
