In France, 70,000 police officers and gendarmes will be deployed again on November 7

Private draft

France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced that 70,000 law enforcement officers will once again be deployed across the country for the protests expected on November 7. The ministry will keep the same tactics, with numerous checks at approaches, including on roads and at train stations.

Nuñez said the situation differs from November 5: fewer notifications were received from trade union organizations. According to him, a number of marches have been announced, but in most cases these are only calls to gather, so there is often no clearly designated organizer, and the risks to law enforcement and public order on site are higher.

France’s Interior Ministry updated the results of the strike day on November 5. According to final data, 642 offenders were detained, and the number of injured law enforcement officers in the clashes reached 112, whereas the ministry had reported 53 injured the previous evening.

The coalition of leading trade unions and youth organizations received prefectural approval for a march route between Place de la République and Place de la Nation, as on November 5. The Coordination Council of the Yellow Vests movement was denied permission for an action at Place de la Concorde opposite the National Assembly, but its representatives said they still intended to gather there from 14:00 to 19:00.

This will already be the fourth Saturday of protest actions across France demanding protection for wages, jobs and industry, as well as the resources of public services. After the first day of protests on October 17, when in several cities, including Paris, actions against the rising cost of living and in support of students turned into chaos and looting, the authorities tightened measures; the demonstrations on October 24 and 31 were accompanied by less unrest.

On November 5, according to the Interior Ministry’s count, 430 actions took place across the country, with 575,000 people taking part, and in Paris 75,000 to 80,000 demonstrators protested. The General Confederation of Labour said that about 1.6 million people took to the streets across France, including 350,000 participants in Paris.
