Ushakov said the conversation focused on a settlement in Ukraine and the results of Kushner and Witkoff’s visit. Jared Kushner and Steven Witkoff, he said, represent the American administration.
The presidential aide said that Putin gave an “objective and thorough analysis” of what is happening during the special military operation and the prospects for advancing on the battlefield. According to him, the Russian president also outlined what the Americans could realistically do to bring the military actions to an end as soon as possible.
Ushakov stated that against the backdrop of talk about Russia’s alleged hostile intentions toward European states, it was emphasized: “we have no aggressive plans whatsoever in mind regarding Europe”. He added that intelligence reports about Russian provocations against NATO countries are “myths” that, he said, serve as cover for Europeans to increase support for Ukraine.
The results of Witkoff and Kushner’s trip, which was announced back in the spring and postponed for several months, were “rated positively”, Ushakov said. At the same time, Bloomberg and Financial Times sources claimed that the special envoys’ tour brought no significant results, and that Putin remained determined to continue the war and expects to fully capture Donbas within the next six months.
In Kyiv, they felt that Witkoff and Kushner brought little that was new. Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod said on Tuesday that their peace terms had become “worse” than before: if constitutional changes and recognition of territories were not previously required, now they were.
