An explosion occurred at an ammunition plant in Granada, three workers were hospitalized

Private draft

On the morning of October 30, an explosion occurred at the Fábrica de Municiones de Granada ammunition plant on the outskirts of the Spanish city of Granada. Andalusia’s emergency service 112 reported that three workers suffered minor hearing damage and were taken to the hospital.

According to The Insider, the first of more than 30 calls about a strong explosion came in to emergency services at 8:57. Police, firefighters, medics, and explosives specialists arrived at the scene, and no damage was found to nearby residential buildings. The causes of the incident are being determined.

The Czech defense group CSG, which owns the plant, said the explosion occurred in the demilitarization zone, where old, damaged, or unusable ammunition is destroyed. According to the company, this area is located away from the plant’s production facilities. CSG also claims that the production capacity was not damaged and that no long-term impact on output is expected.

Later, the UGT union reported five injured people. According to its data, two more workers suffered minor burns. A union representative suggested that the explosion may have occurred during a quality check of one of the shells, and that the area had been cordoned off and employees were at a safe distance.

Fábrica de Municiones de Granada is part of Slovakia’s MSM Group, which belongs to the Czech defense group CSG. The plant produces tank and artillery ammunition, including 155 mm shells, as well as rocket components. According to ABC, after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the plant became one of the suppliers of ammunition and rocket components for Ukraine. Against the backdrop of the war, the plant significantly expanded production, although the possibility of its closure had previously been discussed.
