The chair of the State Duma committee on family protection, Nina Ostanina, sent an appeal to Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova over the rave party “LitRAVE” at the Russian State Library. She asked to clarify the rules for holding entertainment and commercial events in federal cultural institutions of historical and national significance.
Ostanina sent Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova an appeal criticizing the rave party “LitRAVE”, which took place on October 31 at the Russian State Library, ASTRA reported, citing a letter from the deputy that is in the possession of the editorial offices of Kommersant and RBC.
The deputy asked to clarify the rules for holding entertainment and commercial events in federal cultural institutions of historical and national significance. According to her, organizing such events runs counter to Putin’s decree on preserving traditional values.
In a comment to RBC, Ostanina said she would like to understand what guided the Ministry of Culture when it provided a “book temple” for the party. She also stated that she disagrees with dividing the space into a “hall for orgies” and a “hall for books” and intends to discuss this issue with the library.
Ostanina emphasized, however, that she is not opposed to private entertainment events as such. In her appeal, she noted that such events should be held taking into account the institution’s profile, legal requirements, the conditions for using state property, and the need to preserve library collections.
On the night of November 1, the Russian State Library, together with the publishing house Eksmo-AST, hosted a literary rave attended by about three thousand people. The publishing house said that safety measures were observed and that no damage was done to the library or the book collections.
