Sales of new laptops in Russia fell by 19% in nine months of 2026

Private draft

From January to September 2026, sales of new laptops in Russia declined by 19% in units and by 5% in revenue. At the same time, demand for used, refurbished, and repairable devices rose noticeably.

According to ICMR (“GfK-Rus”) estimates, over nine months of 2026 Russians bought 1.94 million new laptops, and market turnover amounted to 132 billion rubles, The Moscow Times reports.

Stepan Mikhailov, head of the laptop and PC purchasing group at Citilink, cited industry data showing that in the first half of 2026 sales of new laptops fell by about 20% year over year. Platforma OFD reported a 9% drop in the number of purchases, and Mikhailov linked the decline to a 30–35% rise in prices and the fact that many Russians postponed planned device upgrades.

According to Mikhailov, buyers have been changing laptops less often because the functionality of the devices they already have is sufficient for them. When buying, they increasingly choose cheaper models, including for schoolchildren.

At the same time, demand for second-hand and refurbished laptops is growing. M.Video said that from January to September sales of refurbished laptops increased almost fourfold, and the net turnover of this category rose almost threefold.

On Avito, demand for such goods grew 8 times year over year, and sales of used laptops increased by 14% over the same period. A platform representative noted that buying used laptops can save an average of 30–45% or allow you to get a more powerful device within the same budget.

On the WB Resale platform, the number of devices sold from March to September increased almost fivefold, said a representative of RWB. Over nine months, according to Platforma OFD, the number of purchases of laptop repair services increased by 11%, and the median price of such services rose by 11% to 2,603 rubles. For 2025 as a whole, laptop sales across the country fell by 15–30%: Russians and companies bought about 2.9 million devices for 169–183 billion rubles, compared with about 3.9 million units for 212–242 billion rubles in 2024.

At Citilink, this was explained by the fact that citizens are primarily directing money toward essential needs, while M.Video spoke of the market’s shift toward “rational consumption”.
